Pada Kamis (17/12) lalu, Intel telah mengumumkan processor Atom versi lain, yang diberi kode Pine Trail, dan rencanannya akan diuncurkan di CES 2010 Januari mendatang. Rencana besar Intel dalam pengembangan arsitektur sytem PC, terutama untuk GPU yang menjadi satu dengan CPU. Sementara itu, AMD akan mempersiapkan pula processor Llano di tahun 2011 mendatang, namun Intel muncul di tahun 2010 sebagai yang pertama tanggap oleh adanya GPU (Graphics Processing Unit).

Tiga processor Intel yang sepaket dengan chip grafis Intel GMA adalah tipe N450, D510 dan D410. Chip processor Atom N450 ditujukan untuk netbook, sementara D520 dan D410 ditujukan untuk desktop level amatir. Intel Atom tampaknya menjadi pesaing utama untuk Nvidia Ion di netbook. Mengapa diperlukan Atom CPU dan Nvidia GPU, jika Atom CPU sudah memiliki integrasi dengan GPU yang sama, yakni dalam Pine Trail?

Namun, Intel membuat Pine Trail ini  lebih dibuat seperti video playback HD (high definition), namun belum jelas apakah akan dikembangkan lebih lanjut menjadi market PC home theater di masa mendatang. Intel mengklaim bahwa chip Pine Trail akan menghemat power sebesar 20 persen dan ukuran fisik akan berkurang 60 persen ketika diaplikasikan di netbook, lebih kecil ketimbang platform Atom.
